Shortly after the floods, the State of Colorado set aside funding to support local efforts to develop watershed master plans. With support from the State, 11 master plans were developed with the understanding that watershed recovery and resilience requires a holistic approach from the top of the watershed to the bottom, and also requires the engagement and participation of a broad range of watershed stakeholders, including local and state government, non-profits, businesses and landowners. The master planning process provided a collaborative approach to identify and prioritize needs, to develop projects and to guide the implementation. The master planning process also catalyzed the formation of watershed coalitions which are now actively guiding restoration and resiliency efforts within the flood impacted watersheds.

Description
This dataset is an attempt to best represent the boundaries of maintenance responsibilities of each region. It is a combination of our Engineering Region boundaries and Maintenance Section boundaries.

DescriptionThis theme depicts adjustments made to 2010 Census-designated Urban Areas to include adjacent areas with similar urban characteristics, such as commercial and workplace areas or other traffic-generating locations. Adjustments are also made to smooth urban vs. rural roadway classifications where roadways may repeatedly snake in and out of designated urban areas. Adjusted urban boundaries are determined cooperatively between the Colorado Department of Transportation and local transportation planning officials and approved by the Governor of Colorado and the Federal Highways Administration. These boundaries have been subsequently modified (as of September 2015) from those adopted in February 2015 to make technical corrections for the purpose of refining urban/rural roadway transitions.

Polygon geometry feature class representing Colorado public school district boundaries obtained directly from the U.S. Census as a TIGER shapefile in 2022.  This file was developed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for use in program activities and emergency preparedness exercises.

Description

This layer was created by CDOT's GIS Support Unit and is updated annually using the 2010 census urbanized areas (non clusters), Cherry Creek Drainage Basin, and the most recent city limits (from DOLA) as listed in the MS4 permit.

MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems) is a conveyance or system of conveyances that is: Owned by a state, city, town, village, or other public entity that discharges to waters of the U.S.; Designed or used to collect or convey stormwater (including storm drains, pipes, ditches, etc.); Not a combined sewer; and Not part of a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (sewage treatment plant).
